So as I mentioned in lower article about the documentary “Citizen Havel” I performed a test on my own film “Bobule” tragically I find out how much of the screen is covered behind projection mask and bad building and formating of cinema itself. The two projections rooms in Slovansky dum, room 1 and 3 are so large that they very badly bend the picture. The bottom part is wider then the top part. So the whole picture is tilted…and focus…focus was horrible as well. As I noticed on that test, in Multiplex cinemas the cover of what the audience should see is about 8%!!! Such big part of the film is hidden from audience behind masking and bad building of cinemas here in Czech Republic! 8% of loss is a massive change in composition and overall feeling of film itself. By this experience I scaled my movie for 1.5% in the Arri Laser burning process and recompose the whole film with guide lines set to 6%. Hope now I’m safe and the audience will see what I want them to see.

Some films you should watch…
There are four films I like very much. As to Smart People and Son of Rambow, I just saw the trailers, but they look amazing. Smart People is from the producers of Sideways starring Dennis Quaid and Thomas Haden Church and of course Ellen Page from Juno, another great film from Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman, the maker such a classic as Ghostbusters. Son of Rambow is a smash hit from Sundance film festival. Another film which you should not miss is a police drama We Own The Night with Jacques Phoenix and Mark Wahberg, the cops in New York and I think it’s much better than American Gangster, it has better mood and the story is more thrilling. Another great surprise for me is Into The Wild, a very good movie from Sean Penn!!! A great film based on a novel by John Krakauer about Chris McCandless, an American boy influenced by Jack London and Lev Nicholayevich Tolstoy, who seeks solitude from civilization, a journey to find the meaning of his existence. Unprepared he spent 4 months in Alaska wilderness. If you don’t know anything about him, before you google or wiki him, just see the film, because it may not be so strong if you know how it ends. Kristen Stewart makes a great performance in this film as well as the others, but she is just outstanding there. Small episode role, but really well done. So go and see these films.
Travel back in time

Citizen Havel
So I went to see the movie “Citizen Havel” yesterday. In fact, I would enjoy the film very much, if it weren´ t for the stupid projectionist.All the time I could see only a half of the ex-president´ s head, because the frame line was set improperly. As a cinematographer, I was hardening my neck muscles as I wanted to pan up the whole time. So it was a painful experience. That gave me an idea. I need to perform a test to find out how much of the movie is covered behind the sides, and then, I would adjust the burning process, so that the audience could see the whole picture in the cinema. It´s necessary to find a compromise between a multiplex and ordinary cinema. It should be done as soon as possible.P.S.: It was in Cinema City Flora Cinema 6
